Your appointment

What to expect on the day

A guide to help you prepare for your private ophthalmology consultation at Claremont Private Hospital.

Your visit, step by step

What to bring

Please bring your current glasses, an up-to-date medication list and any relevant referral letters, reports or previous eye-clinic correspondence.

Initial measurements

Your vision and eye pressure may be checked before the consultation. Additional retinal imaging or OCT scanning may be recommended.

Dilating eye drops

Drops are often used to widen the pupils so the retina can be examined properly. They take time to work and may cause blurred near vision and sensitivity to light for several hours.

Consultation and examination

Mr Spiteri-Cornish will discuss your symptoms and history, examine your eyes at the slit lamp and explain the findings and any treatment or follow-up required.

Allow enough time

Please allow approximately 60–90 minutes for the visit, particularly when pupil dilation or imaging is needed. Complex assessments may take longer.

Driving afterwards

Because dilating drops can temporarily blur vision, you should avoid driving until your vision has returned to normal. Consider arranging transport and bringing sunglasses.
